Description: Designed for exclusive use with PENTAX KAF-mount digital SLR cameras, the new lens offers 4X zoom coverage in the telephoto range. Further, the lens features an angle of view from 31.5 degrees to 8.1 degrees (equivalent in focal length from 76.5mm to 306mm in the 35mm format). As with all DA-Series lenses, this DA 50mm-200mm features a responsive Quick-Shift Focus System that allows photographers to instantly switch the focus mode from auto to manual with a slight twist of the focus ring. Coupled with a simple, functional design and the elimination of an aperture ring, this new mechanism considerably improves operability. The lens also incorporates an Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass lens element and two aspherical lens elements for true-to-life image reproduction and overall size reduction. The image circle in DA-series lenses is designed to perfectly match the 23.5mm x 15.7mm size of the CCD used in PENTAX digital SLRs to optimize camera performance. The new design also contributes to a drastic reduction in size, weight and production cost, compared to 35mm-format counterparts with similar specifications.

Also available as 'WR' weather resistant variant (Second photo); Released 21 May 2009.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Affordable
Cons: front element protrudes when zoomed. Min aperture a bit only F4.

200mm + ED lens and at this price. Impressive.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): very smooth zoom, lightweight, inexpensive, relatively good image quality
Cons: none that I could think of

Best bang for the buck if you want an inexpensive telephoto zoom. Its sharp, and yeilds great image quality for what its worth.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Size, weight, build quality, range
Cons:

Great lens for the price. 220$ BEFORE 50$ rebate. Provides a very nice range though 35-200 would be perfect IMO. Very good size and weight for range though when zoomed it looks a bit junky as the front element sticks way out front and the barrel becomes narrow making it look a bit cheap. Not super sharp but certainly capable of taking quality photos. Stopping down a bit helps, especially when at the extremes of either end.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Great bang for the buck. Light weight. Good quality lens.
Cons: Soft at outer limits. Doesn't have the feel of quality.

This big brother of the kit 18-55 is not expensive for the quality of it capability. The light weight is a two edged blade in that it is easy to carry around yet leads me to wonder about its durability. I haven't heard of any breaking down, but it almost feels flimsy.
I have better zooms covering this range, but the lightness of this one makes it all too easy a choice for a quick trip - and it doesn't disappoint.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Value and good quality image
Cons: Soft on 200mm

Better than the 18-55mm supplied on basic kit. Good image quality and high range versatility (55 through 200mm), especially for portraits. For wildlife pictures (birds) at 200mm, image on the soft side and max aperture could be an issue.
