One of my two favorite Pentax lenses with the other being the 77mm limited. A very affordable lens that produces great images on APS-C format cameras. The max aperture of f1.4 provides a great view through the viewfinder and also lends itself well for creamy smooth bokeh at larger apertures. A great choice for anyone wanting to add a prime lens to their tool kit.

I just got this last week and afte trying it out I have to say that this is a must-have-lens in my book! The wide apperture allows me to do creative shots which cant be achieved with the kit lens. And the bokeh is nice too!

Very nice lens especially when you look at the price. Tack sharp across the range, nice contrast, bokeh that is hard to better. A fun lens to use.

Superb image quality for a good price. Very very sharp. Performs very well in low light. I gave it a 9 because at 1.4 you can see purple fringing in very high contrasty areas.

I've had this lens for about a year, and it's been a terrific everyday lens. I notice that some people say that a lens hood isn't included, but I got a hood included when I bought it at BH. Given its price and speed, it's one of the best lenses I every bought. Even with the plastic finish the lens feels heavy and solidy.

I have recently purchased this lens and amazed by it's speed, clarity and sharpness. It allows me to take pictures in very low light, it also allows me to be more creative with the smooth bokeh that it's large apertures produces. Good bang for the buck!

I need this lens as a 24 or 28mm for digital. At 50mm, consider it a portrait lens on a digital camera. Best apertures between f2.2 and f4.0
Big aperture is a 'get out of jail free card', when you would not otherwise be able to get the shot, however it is a bit soft at f1.4. f1.8 is an improvement, while f2.2 is the magic aperture when you get both sharpness and lovely bokeh. You can nearly guarantee that any shot taken at this aperture will look either very good or at worst 'artistic'.
Weakness is performance in bright / contra light - best to put it in the bag during the day to avoid the purple fringing.
OK build, although not as good as DA lenses. Aperture blades move very smoothly and the viewfinder view is very bright. A nice lens to play with.
Unfortunately, the auto focus hunts a lot in poor lighting, which can offset the advantage of the large aperture for low light shots.
Having said all that, it's not worth the current price - I would recommend a DA lens instead.
