I recently purchased the K-X and think I love it.  I'm new to DSLR.  I have the manuel, but  the camera is overwhelming on what it can do simply in the photo mode.  I'm more of a video kinda' guy over print.  Must be that simple-mind thing.
I would really benefit from a training or tutorial DVD.  I've seen, and appreciate the Video Tutorial Section of the forum that Spyglass started.  I really require something specific to the many functions of the K-X.
I've noticed many for Nikon and Canon.

Hi Mtneye,

I am a manual junkie, read them cover to cover, and like pawing through the pages. But I do love how video can quickly bring the basic features and operation out and get a person started.
I fully understand your position on instructional video manuals and quick start / turbo tutorials.

One thing is to not be overwhelmed by it all. Start with the the basics, get comfortable with the operation of the camera (which is going to be similar with all models) and slowly branch out and touch on new tricks and aspects from there.
Watch several reviews on the camera to gain an over view of the high demand features (and then go read up on them n the manual). As time goes by there will probably be more videos available.

Check out Amazon.com for DVD guides to come out for your model. One company that has been pretty good at producing such videos is :

Run with factory settings and don't worry about fine tuning or creating custom profiles and settings until you are comfortable with the camera.
Search Youtube and look for Pentax K-x related tutorials and reviews

Most of all enjoy your new camera and embrace the learning curve. (manuals make great bathroom readers).

Cool!  Thanks Spyglass.  Hey, looking @ Jump Start Guides, I could use one of these that are similar to my Cam.  My question is would the K-M, K100 or K200 be the most similar as far as controls an settings?
Thanks,

Hi Mtneye,

Pentax has been rolling through camera models as fast as my kids can get through a box of cookies. I just noticed that the Pentax website does not even show the KM in their line up anymore. While it is nice that Pentax is on the move and producing, the downside is that all the 3rd party support is not as willing to follow. Not too many manufactures are going to produce a DVD series if they feel that the product life span will not be long enough to make it profitable. (similar to all the companies that decide to not create and release "drivers" for older devices for use with Microsoft operating systems - hello windows 2000....... goodbye windows 2000, hello Vista...... good bye Vista).

I would contact Jump Start and ask them if they plan to produce and release a DVD on the K-X (and if not, what would be the closest DVD they have). I am guessing it would be the K7...... but being a K20 owner and not having hands on experience with either the K7 or the K-X I am really only guessing. I do find that so far Pentax has maintained some consistancy with the layout of their user interface. (simlar menu catagories, with parameters seeming to fall where you would expect, etc) The jump from my *ist to my K20 was painless and easy.

I am surprised that Pentax has not put one out with each of their models. I love the flash video they put out for the AF360 FGZ & AF540 FGZ It was very well done. (I believe you can still find it on the B&H Hoto website if you go and there and look at the flash units).
