Hot Rumor - Pentax 645d news is starting to bubble - Rumor

Rumor ------ Again you didn't hear it from me but...the long expected Pentax 645d is looking like it is coming soon.

Stay tuned this looks like a similar launch to the K-7 last year. Although this will most likely be way over my pay grade, it's still apt to knock the industry for a loop - assuming that this is more than just a rumor.

I thought I read that this camera will only offer 18.4 mp (doeen't seem like a huge improvement for the bulkier size). I do notice that lens for a medium format camera seem to be going  for very reasonable prices on Ebay and Craigslist. Just my luck I would wait for the pixel count to get up to where it would be inviting and then the lenses would jump up in value.


Interesting to see what transpires. I am waiting to see what Pentax has to offer next. With the number of DA lenses they have been developing I can not imagine that they are looking to go full frame anytime soon. (I also think that people only want what they can't have)

The rumor has been an continues to be that the senor should be around 39-40mp. That would be expected for a medium format camera and would be on par with the few others out there. In my digital photography class last fall my instructor had a PhaseOne data back (about $45k) for a Contax MF camera which was in this range. The image files are REALLY big and can get up in the gigabyte range with PP work. On the other hand you can't believe the image quality on these MF cameras.

Regardless, it will be very interesting to see what happens. And from rumor mill I've read, yes if this get's released, there really isn't a big need for Pentax to go FF in the near future. Although the rumors still suggest a FF in the fall. Who knows?

For this camera, no. I'll keep looking though. However, I did post some info on the rumor of some new DSLR lenses.
