Have you updated the Firmware in your camera?
«
on:
December 12, 2008, 01:37:28 AM »
After seeing a post from one of our members inquiring about updating camera Firmware I started to wonder how many people actually update the Firmware in their camera bodies (lets face it, many of us live by the gold rule "if it isn't broken don't fix it"). For the most part the cameras come to us in a working state. The Firmware does offer fixes, solutions, & enhancements. It would be interesting to see have many of us take advantage of the updates.
Thanks,

Bonsoir,
Updating my K10D with 1.30 firmware was compulsory for SDM lenses management. So I had no choice!

That's a bit a strange poll, having to select just one camera.
I updated the firmware of *istD, *istDS, K100D, K10D and K20D. On some camera, I updated the firmware even several times.

Good question Dominique,
A poll is a tool designed by its creator to seek a broad answer to a question that they have manufactured. My purpose, if truth be told (and here I set in motion an event that may alter the results of my poll) is to encourage or educate users about Firmware updating. I put the question out based on the members "current" camera. I would assume that if someone had earlier models, and had updated them, they would most likely carry out the practice with future, newer models. Their post would show that they support and use Firmware updates. If they didn't up date in the past on a former camera model, and they moved on to a new current model, the present camera and the member’s practice regarding Firmware updating is more relevant.
If someone was opposed to Firmware updating, or perhaps a particular update they may be encouraged to post in this thread and provide some Pro & Con information on Firmware updating. Generally updates, in my experience, offer solutions or fixes to problems or potential problems, or change in operation. But I have experienced, with other non Pentax devices, cases where updates took away features or made changes that negatively affected my interaction with the device.
I hope my answer here explains the poll. I had thought of several different approaches but this one seemed to best serve my intention.

I understand Tim, but allowing multiple choice would have been better, excepted K200D, I could select all cameras on the poll.

After installing the firmware 1.30 I had a problem with lenses that SMC da 50-200.
simply could not focus. engine is spinning forward - backward. I had to move a small point of focus so I took a focus. Track SuperMoto and Motocross race for magazines and I was really mad that I installed firmware.Kontakt I have suppliers in Croatia and asked how to return to 1.20. Of course not. I sent the lens on the service to check any possible errors because the SMC da 18-55 and macro 100mm / 2.8 work perfectly. Service has determined that the dust between the first two lenses that can not be parsed and sent me the new lens. Coincidence firmware 1.30 and dust in the objective - I do not know. Waiting for the rain to stop that they can try out the new 50-200.
Pentax should work on autofocus, should be faster and focus forefront of personnel and not something in the background. Especially when it comes to the mobile facilities that image (SMC da * 50-135).

The firmware was updated on the k10d to 1.1 then Pentax service upgraded it to 1.3 when I sent it in for service. My other k10d still has 1.0 on it. I wanted to allow for lens adjustment so I didn't upgrade the firmware on it. I think my k20d has the original firmware on it. I don't even know what the updated firmware addressed but as I recall it wasn't anything I couldn't live without so I haven't bothered.

Thank you for the link ironshot. I will do this as soon as I can.
A while back I was asking on this site what zoom lens to get for taking some of those moto x pics and im glad I did because the inexpensive Sigma DG 70-300mm Lens was a great susgestion. Anything else at this point would have ben a waste of money with so much to learn, and one day after many pictures, a lot more reading and trial and error I might move up, but for now its great.
I wont be taking any moto x pics till the snow melts next spring. Last time out on the track this year I came up a little short on a long double jump, crashed and broke a couple ribs so im out of commision for a bit.

I was lucky to read the self-support, thanks for the link, and updated my k10d firmware to 1.3, then quickly rush down to the camera dealer yesterday and tried up my ordered DA17-70 SDM, ironically it works! Initially i thought it was a malfunction copy when 1st attempt a week ago, so lucky that the dealer has not returned it to the distributor. Had tried out the SDM, focal, definitely "You.. complete me.."
